South Aberdeenshire Swimming
|
SquadsSAS is a composite team consisting of the four competitive swimming clubs in
South Aberdeenshire, namely Banchory Beavers, Stonehaven, Upper Deeside and
Westhill District. These 4 clubs, along with Garioch, formed the team in 1997 in
order to provide the opportunity for those swimmers whose ambition and ability reached higher than the individual clubs could provide for,
and to enable them to take part in National Competitions as part of a sizeable
team rather than the lonely trip as a few individuals. Development Squad, for swimmers aged 10 & 11 years, which trains approximately once per month at the Robert Gordons Sports Complex at Garthdee. Swimmers are nominated for Development Squad by their own coaches. Junior Squad, for swimmers aged 11-13 years, which trains approximately once per month at Stonehaven. Swimmers are nominated for Junior Squad by their own coaches. Transitional Squad, for swimmers aged 13 years upwards which also trains once a month at Stonehaven. Swimmers were selected for Transitional Squad by the Lead Coach, Jim Cameron, following a trial in May at Westhill Swimming Pool. Top Squad, which is a full-time squad training 10 times per week at
Westhill, for those swimmers fully committed and able to take part in such an
intensive programme. Swimmers are selected by Head Coach, Gary Paterson. Swimmers with the necessary commitment can make their way through these squads and hopefully reach as far in their chosen sport of swimming as they wish to go.
