XVIII Commonwealth Games

Melbourne 2006

Live Results

This Thursday, 16th March 2006, South Aberdeenshire swimmer Kerry Buchan will compete in her first senior international event, the XVIII Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia. Kerry will compete in the 50m, 100m & 200m Breaststroke events against world-class swimmers, including world-record holder Leisel Jones, who recently smashed the LC World Record in the 200m event by a huge margin of 1.18 seconds at the Australian Trials.

In 2005, Kerry ranked 31st & 41st in the world rankings for the 100m & 200m Breaststroke events, putting her in a great position heading to Melbourne as part of a strong 19-squad Scottish team. She will be accompanied to Australia by South Aberdeenshire head coach Gary Paterson, who has been named as one of the coaches on the Scottish Team.

The Commonwealth Games are the 3rd largest multi-sport event in the world behind the Olympics and the World Student Games.

We wish both Kerry & Gary best wishes as they make their final preparations in Bendigo, Australia at the Scottish acclimatisation camp before the Games begin in Melbourne on the 16th March.
