Scottish Results - Day Four             

Scottish 1-2 Win on Day 4

David Carry & Euan Dale stunned the Australian crowds by winning the Mens 400m Individual Medley in fantastic form on Day 4 of the Commonwealth Games. Carry took the his second Gold in a new Commonwealth Games & British Record time of 4:15.98. Dale battled it out for the Silver with Australian Travis Nederpelt and was victorious in 4:17.15 to Nederpelt's bronze medal winning time of 4:17.24. 18 year-old Welsh swimmer Thomas Haffield finished in 6th place (4:25:79).

The Scottish success looks set to carry on as 5 swimmers have qualified through from semis to the finals on Day 5. First to qualify were Ross Clark (28.95) & Chris Jones (29.04) in the Mens 50m Breaststroke moving through into the final in 7th & 8th position. They are behind English swimmers Darren Mew (28.14), James Gibson (28.40) & Chris Cook (28.56) who qualified in 2nd, 4th & 6th places respectively.

Next to progress were Kirsty Balfour & Kerry Buchan in the 100m Breaststroke. Balfour touched just outside the British Record in 1:08.45 to qualify in 4th position behind an Aussie 1-2-3 and Kerry finished in a new personal best time of 1:09.38 to qualify 7th behind English swimmer Kate Haywood in 6th (1:09.28).

Gregor Tait has also qualified in 4th position, into the final of the Mens 100m Backstroke. He finished in a time of 55.45 and hoping to add to his to Gold in the 200m Backstroke by stepping up in the final to take down Australian favourite Matt Welsh. Tait is joined by English swimmers Liam Tancock (54.92) & Matt Clay (55.59) in the final.

In the Mens 100m Butterfly semi-finals Todd Cooper showed good form to qualify in 5th place in a time of 53.30 along with English swimmer Matt Bowe who qualified in 6th place (53.53). Australian favourite Michael Klim leads the pack into the final with a time of 52.86.

In Finals action England secured two more gold medals to their tally by wins from Simon Burnett and Rebecca Cooke. US based Simon took control of the Mens 100m Freestyle final by winning in a spectacular Commonwealth Games Record time of 48.57, finishing 0.63 ahead of Silver & Bronze medallists and Auburn training partners Ryk Neethling (RSA) & Roland Schoeman (RSA). City of Glasgow swimmer Rebecca Cooke dominated the 800m Freestyle event from 350m onwards to take the title in 8:29.50. Fellow England swimmer Keri-Anne Payne finished in a 4th place, 0.19 behind the Bronze medallist in 8:38.24.
