Scottish Results - Day Five             

2 Gold, 2 Bronze Medals for Team Scotland

Scottish Swimmers continued their Commonwealth success on Day 5 by increasing their medal tally to 11 medals!

Caitlin McClatchey did the double by winning the 400m Freestyle event to add to her 200m Freestyle Gold from Thursday. McClatchey finished in 4:07.69, just 0.01 outside the Commonwealth Games Record. The Silver medal was won by English swimmer Joanne Jackson (4.08.36) and the Bronze to 16-year-old Australian star Bronte Barratt (4:08.65).

Gregor Tait had an outstanding evening winning a Gold in the Mens 200m Individual Medley and a Bronze in the Mens 100m Backstroke. In the 200m Individual Medley final, Tait powered past Silver medallist Dean Kent (NZL) in the last 25m to clinch the Gold in a new British & Scottish Record time of 2:00.73. Canadian Brian Johns picked up the Bronze medal in 2:01.56. Fellow Scots David Carry (2:02.06) & Euan Dale (2:02.60) finished in 5th & 7th places respectively. In the 100m Backstroke final, Englishman Liam Tancock took the Gold medal in a new Commonwealth Games Record time of 54.53, Australian favourite Matt Welsh won the Silver in 54.82 and Tait won the Bronze in a new Scottish Record time of 54.89.

The second Bronze medal was won by Kirsty Balfour in the final of the Womens 100m Breaststroke. Australian Breaststroke queen Leisel Jones won the event in a new World Record time of 1:05.09, smashing it by 0.62 seconds! Fellow Australian Jade Edmistone took the Silver in 1:07.24 and Balfour, breaking the British & Scottish records, picked up the bronze in 1:07.83. South Aberdeenshire swimmer Kerry Buchan also competed in the world record-breaking final, finishing in 8th place in 1:09.49.

In the final of the Mens 100m Butterfly, Todd Cooper finished in 6th position in a time of 53.31. The event was won by Papua New Guinea swimmer Ryan Pini in 52.64.

Ross Clark (28.93) & Chris Jones (29.19) raced in the final of the Mens 50m Breaststroke placing in 7th & 8th, with Ross breaking the Scottish Record. The final was won by Englishman Chris Cook in 28.01, Silver to fellow Englishman Darren Mew (28.07) and Bronze to Australian Brenton Rickard (28.14).
