Time Trials, Team Challenges and Club Championships

Time Trials are only for Squads B & C and take place on Sunday nights between 6.30 and 7.30pm approximately 6 - 8 times per year. The purpose of Time trials is to allow coaches to assess the swimmers' progress and produce up to date PB times for entering the swimmers for SAS Leagues and local Galas. Swimmers are awarded with Certificates for every PB which they achieve at Time trials. A Starter and eight timekeepers (who do not need to be qualified) are required to help out and you will be invited to assist by the organising coach or the Committee member with responsibility for Technical officials.

Team Challenge takes place once or twice a year. This is an event where all the swimmers in the Club are divided as evenly as possible into four teams who then compete against each other. Swimmers are matched as evenly as possible in order to have competitive races - competition between peers in the same squad can produce impressive PB's! Team challenges last from 6.30 - 9pm on Sunday evenings and are intended as a fun event - but a good number of PB's are also achieved. Again a Starter and eight timekeepers are required and usually somebody to hand round juice - our pool is a very warm environment. Swimmers should bring a t-shirt to wear between races and an extra towel as well as the usual costume, cap, goggles and water bottle.

Club Championships - we have two of these each year. In the Winter we hold our Distance Championships which take place over two Sunday evening sessions 6.30 - 9pm, usually 2 - 4 weeks apart. Only squads A. B & Club take part in the Distance Championships as our younger members are not experienced enough to race over distances of 200 metres and more. Swimmers must take part in four events to be eligible for the Championship Trophies and at least one of these must be over a distance greater than 200metres and at least one event must be in a stroke other than Freestyle. There are 4 Trophies, Junior Girls and Boys (under 14 years on the last weekend of the Championships) and Senior Girls and Boys (14 years and over). Medals are also presented for all events.
Again we require a Starter, Judges and Timekeepers to run the Distance Championships.

Our annual Club Championships normally take place in Spring and we try to run these as an accredited event. This means that we require a qualified Referee, Starter, Recorder and 6 Judges as well as 13 qualified timekeepers in order that the times achieved by the swimmers can be used for entry into District and National Competitions. We encourage all our members to take part in these Championships and the events are run in the following Age Groups:-

10 years & under                50m freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke,
25m butterfly and 100m Individual medley
11/12 years                       100m freestyle, backstroke & breaststroke
50m Butterfly and 100m Individual medley
13/14 years                        100m freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke & butterfly,

                                        200m Individual medley
15/16 years and 17+ years - as for 13/14.

Swimmers must compete in all five events in order to be eligible to become an Age Group Club Champion, however medals are awarded for all events and swimmers are urged to take part even if they are unable to do all five events - coaches are happy to advise on which ones should be entered.
Notices for the Championships will be posted about a month in advance and swimmers should ensure that they sign off their names on the sheet to indicate that they are available to take part.
