South Aberdeenshire Swimming

All members of Stonehaven ASC are automatically also members of South Aberdeenshire Swimming (SAS). This is a composite team consisting of the four competitive swimming clubs in South Aberdeenshire, namely Banchory Beavers, Stonehaven, Upper Deeside and Westhill District. These 4 clubs, along with Garioch, formed the team in 1997 in order to provide the opportunity for those swimmers whose ambition and ability reached higher than the individual clubs could provide for, and to enable them to take part in National Competitions as part of a sizeable team rather than the lonely trip as a few individuals.
In six short years SAS has become the 2nd best team in Scotland and it is our aim to make the No 1 spot.
In order to assist the swimmers along their path to success, SAS has four training squads.

Development Squad, for swimmers aged 10 & 11 years, which trains approximately once per month at the new RGU Sports Complex at Garthdee. This is a new squad which has just been set up for 2006 intended to fill the gap which The Academy, run by Scottish Swimming, has left. There are 9 Stonehaven swimmers in Development Squad for the 2006 season, they are as follows:

 Andrew Beattie  Iona Grant
 Jonathon Gray  Jessica Nellany
 Sam Howard  Elise Setter
 Tim Hull  Tara Swindells
 Arran Shoker

Junior Squad, for swimmers aged 11-13 years, which trains approximately once per month at Stonehaven. There are 6 Stonehaven swimmers in Junior Squad for the 2005-2006 season, they are as follows:

 Pamela Beck

 Danny Connolly
 Sara Hamilton
 Ruairidh Mitchell
 Fraser Reid
 Emily Speakman

Transitional Squad, for swimmers aged 12 years upwards which also trains once a month at Portlethen. 4 Stonehaven swimmers were selected for Transitional Squad following a trial in April at Westhill Swimming Pool, they are as follows:

 Luke Brown

 Kirstie Duncan
 Kimberley Preston
 Duncan Reid

Top Squad, which is a full-time squad training 10 times per week at Westhill, for those swimmers fully committed and able to take part in such an intensive programme.
Any swimmer with the necessary commitment can make their way through these squads and hopefully reach as far in their chosen sport of swimming as they wish to go.  Stonehaven currently has no swimmers in Top Squad.

SAS Junior League is run by SAS for swimmers age 8 - 12 years and there are 4 matches per season, usually between January & June, which are held at Westhill as this is the only 6 lane pool available to the team.

SAS Meets  - National and other events entered by SAS as a team, are open to any club member who has the required entry times for the event concerned.  Swimmers do not require to be members of any SAS squads to compete as part of the SAS team at these events.
